The South Bend police officer who shot and killed a black man holding a knife on June 16th has officially resigned.

Sgt. Ryan O'Neill, who is white, was investigating a series of vehicle thefts when police say he shot 54 year old Eric Jack Logan shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 16th.

South Bend police acknowledged O'Neill's resignation, but chose to offer no further comment.
