A one vehicle crash claimed the life of the driver.

Michigan State Police were dispatched to Gorbell and Bidwell Roads in Branch County's Girard Township at 3:35 PM Friday for a one vehicle crash. Troopers say the vehicle was traveling north on Gorbell Road and failed to navigate a 90 degree right turn. The automobile drove through the curve, into a ditch and struck a tree head on.

The driver, an elderly man, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed by the Coldwater Fire Department. The man suffered multiple injuries and was flown from the scene by West Michigan Air Care to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He later passed away from his injuries.

Assisting at the scene was the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Life Care Ambulance.
