Deputies in Defiance County have finally positively identify a body found in the Maumee River from back in May.

Jabari Mbwelera of Fort Wayne is his name, and was reported missing back on January 23rd of this year. Mbwelera’s body was found near U.S. 127, in the Cecil Bridge area near Sherwood.

Authorities have reason to believe that the man may have entered the water between Indiana and the recovery site.

Further investigation of the incident will be handled by the Fort Wayne Police Department who announced they will be taking over any follow-up action.
