Tuesday, September 3, 2019

A 24-year-old Coldwater man was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with a reported shots-fired incident that occurred downtown at about 2:30 a.m. Coldwater Police say Joseph Dunn was arrested on September 1, 2019, following a vehicle pursuit that lead away from the scene of the shooting incident. According to police, they received a report of shots fired in an alley downtown. As officers responded to the scene, the suspect fled the area in a black pickup truck.

Officers located and attempted to stop the truck, and it fled. Officers pursued and were able to arrest Dunn when he pulled into his residence. Police believe intoxicants may be involved. Officers recovered the frame of a disassembled Glock pistol, a loaded magazine and ammunition from the vehicle. The slide assembly was removed from the firearm and police believe the suspect may have thrown it out the window of the truck as he attempted to flee police.

Police noted the route of travel of the fleeing vehicle was Chicago Street east from Clay Street, then north on Sprague Street to Hull Street. It then went west on Hull to Morse Street to Hayton and west on Hayton.

Police ask that if someone finds the slide of the firearm, they do not touch it and call 9-1-1 immediately. Dunn was charged with reckless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated and fleeing and eluding 3rd degree. He was lodged in the Branch County Jail.

The Coldwater Police Department were assisted by the Michigan State Police and the Coldwater Fire Department as they arrested Dunn and attempted to locate the missing firearm slide assembly.
