Auburn Council Rejects Freeze on Mayoral Salary

The Auburn Common Council had it's closest vote of the year this week with the votes going 4-3 against the issue issue of how much to pay the new Mayor of Auburn.

Current Mayor, Norm Yoder will be retiring after 20 years in office at the end of his term. The next mayor will either be Democrat Sarah Payne, or Republican Mike Ley.

On the vote, the council rejected a amendment proposing to freeze the Mayor's salary at $2,575 bi weekly or $66,950 per year. After the amendment was voted down, the council then passed an ordinance raising the pay by 6% bringing it to $2,730.77 every two weeks, or $71,000 per year.
