Downs To Speak On School Funding Problems Across Region
Wednesday, October 30, 2019

Funding for public education will be the topic when Indiana’s Superintendent of the Year speaks in Lagrange November 18th.

Southwest Allen County Schools Superintendent Dr. Phil Downs’ talk is entitled “Follow The Money: An Analysis of Why Public Education Is Not Keeping Pace.”

It addresses how state education spending can increase while funding of public schools is lagging behind inflation. Specifically, how vouchers draw over $150 million dollars annually to private schools without public accountability for how those dollars are spent.

Lakeland, Prairie Heights and Westview lost a combined $800-thousand dollars to vouchers during the 2017-18 school year.

The public is urged to attend and hear Downs speak in the Lakeland Jr-Sr High School Auditorium on November 18th at 7 p-m.
