Three school millage requests were on the ballots Tuesday around Southwest Michigan, and all three were approved.

Voters in the Three Rivers School District voted in favor of a ten year extension
of the current 4.9 mill tax rate with 1607 YES votes to 878 NO votes. School officials say the money generated from the bond is anticipated to be just over $61 million. The funds will be used to make improvements to transportation, school and athletic facilities in the district.

Burr Oak Community School voters approved a renewal of their building and site
sinking fund, with 86 YES votes and 32 NOT votes. The request is for 3 mills over five years, and will generate approximately $136,000 a year over the life of the millage.

School officials say they would use the money for such projects as upgrades to the middle school and high school science rooms; build bus storage facilities; replace
the gym ceiling; put in new furnaces at the high school along with other projects.

A renewal of a building and site sinking fund was approved by voters in the Coldwater School District, with 1445 YES votes to 1240 NO votes. This sinking fund would replace the current millage, which is set to expire in December 2020.

Because of a change in the Michigan Laws, this request had to be called a new millage, even though it is a renewal of the current millage of .9740 mills.
