A strong system will be moving across the area over the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, this system could bring a brief period of a wintry mix to the listening area, and some areas may see that change over to all rain.
A rumble of thunder can't be entirely ruled out this afternoon and evening as a cold front pushes eastward. Forecasters say as cooler air filters in behind the cold front on Sunday, a few snowflakes could mix with the rain.
Late Sunday night, our rain/snow mix will likely start to diminish, but some areas could see some lake effect snow persist beyond midnight.
