A long time member of the Steuben County Council has made his bid for a new position in the county official.

Last week (on Wednesday), Steuben County Councilman Kenneth L. Shelton (R) filed as a candidate for Steuben County Commissioner of the Middle District.

Shelton is a third generation resident of Steuben County and a graduate of Angola High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tri-State University (now Trine University) and is a graduate of the Indiana State Police Academy. After retiring from the Indiana State Police, he started Shelton Investigations, LLC in Angola. He is a licensed Professional Private Investigator in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan

Shelton and his wife Karen, of 31 years, are both active in many organizations in Steuben County, including Turning Point Homeless Shelter, 101 Lakes Kiwanis of Angola, and countless others.

Shelton will be on the May Republican ballot for the seat of Steuben County’s Middle District Commissioner. If elected, he will serve on the Board of County Commissioners, which is the chief legislative body in the County. The three County Commissioners are elected for four-year terms by the voters at large and represent the geographical district in which they reside. The Board approves the County budget, adopts local ordinances and resolutions, and establishes policies which govern the County to insure the health, safety and welfare of its citizens.

Steuben’s Middle District Commissioner seat is presently held by James Crowl.
