By: Sergeant Brian Walker - Wednesday, September 9, 2020

DECATUR, IN - Tuesday evening at approximately 6:00pm, Troopers from the Fort Wayne Post responded to the report of a single vehicle motorcycle crash on Winchester Road north of Decatur.

Arriving shortly after the dispatch, officers located a red 2018 Honda motorcycle off road in the side ditch of Winchester Road, just north of CR 900N, with the operator critically injured and unresponsive. EMS and Fire personnel quickly arrived to provide medical assistance, however the operator, Matthew A. Gorman, 27, Fort Wayne, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adams County Coroner.

Trooper Cicely Gasvoda's preliminary investigation of the crash revealed that Gorman had been traveling northbound on Winchester Road prior to the crash. This area of Winchester Road is a winding downhill "S" curve just north of CR900N.

As Gorman's motorcycle entered into the downhill curve, he ran off road and crashed into a utility pole. Speed was noted as a possible factor in the crash, with relation to the fact that there was standing water on the road surface from a recent rain storm. Witness statements provided information that Gorman was observed wearing his helmet prior to the crash.

Notifications have been made to the Gorman family.

Trooper Gasvoada was assisted in her investigation by Sgt. Shaun Armes and Trooper Anthony Repass, the Adams County Sheriff's Department, Adams County EMS, Preble Fire Department, Decatur Fire Department, the Adams County Coroner's Office, and Piqua Repair Wrecker Service.
