Sturgis Public Schools Respond To Governor's Order
By: Mike Stiles - Monday, November 16, 2020

STURGIS – Sturgis Public Schools have responded to Governor Whitmer's announcement of a three week epidemic order.

The order suspends in person learning at all Michigan high schools from November 18 to December 8 in hopes of slowing down the spread of COVID-19. The order also suspends all athletic events and practices through December 8.

Pre-schools, elementary schools and middle schools may continue to offer in person instruction. Also, high schools may continue to offer in person instruction for special education and ELL students.

Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert says the District will continue in person instruction for all Option A Elementary Schools which are Grades K-5, GSRP and ESCE Students. They will also continue hybrid instruction for all Option A Middle School students. This is alternating every other day between in person and at home instruction.

Ebert says they will transition all Option A High School students to fully at home learning for the three weeks the order is in place. Today will still be an in person day for Black Day Students, and Tuesday will be an in person day for Orange Day students. More information will be communicated by Sturgis High School staff, and expect Google Classroom to be the main content delivery system. Students should coordinate with their advisory teacher if they have connectivity issues and need printed materials.

Ebert says Sturgis Public Schools will continue fully at-home instruction for all Option B students. Option B students will continue to utilize Edgenuity (Grades K-5) and Odysseyware (Grades 6-12).
Ebert says they will continue to keep the public and staff informed as they learn more.
