On November 15, 2020 at approximately 2:10 AM, the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle pursuit heading toward our county from 200 W and US 20 in Steuben County. Deputies started toward the county line area to assist and attempt to set up stop sticks. Deputies arrived in the area of 1150 E and US 20 and located the silver 2006 Cadillac STS heading west bound on US 20 at a high rate of speed. Deputies activated their overhead lights and began pursuing the vehicle.

The vehicle lost control and left the roadway in the area of 900 E and US 20, where a single male occupant fled from the vehicle on foot. Officers began a chase and were able to catch the subject, James Johnson, and after a scuffle with officers was able to be taken into custody. Due to the severity of the crash, Parkview LaGrange EMS was contacted and transported the subject to Parkview LaGrange Hospital, where he was evaluated and then medically cleared.

Johnson was then transported to the LaGrange County Jail and incarcerated on charges of Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, a Level 6 Felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor. This matter is being forwarded to the LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office for review and consideration of these charges.
