Ebert Explains How At Home Transition Will Work
By: Mike Stiles - Tuesday, November 17, 2020

STURGIS – Starting Wednesday, all Michigan high school students will transition to at home learning for three weeks.

On Sunday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon announced an epidemic order that will be in place for three weeks, running from November 18 to December 8. Part of the order calls for high school students to all go to online instruction.

During Monday's Sturgis Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert explained Sturgis Schools will continue in person instruction for all Option A elementary, GSPR and ECSE students. They will also continue hybrid, which is every other day in person instruction for all Option A middle school
students, grades 6 through 8.

All Option B students will continue to receive at home instruction. All Option A high school students would transition to at home learning. All special education and ELL high school students may still attend in person learning five days a week. Ebert says this is an opportunity to close some of the gaps with at risk students.

As part of the at home learning for high school students, Ebert says they will have full days of classes, but alternate them. One day they would have class hours 1, 3 and 5, and the next day class hours 2, 4 and 6.
