ASHLEY, IN – A man and a woman have been arrested following an incident in NE Indiana.

Indiana State Police say at 7:30 Friday morning, a trooper pulled into the Ashley Deli on State Road 4 to fill up his gas tank. He noticed a white passenger car leaving in a hurry as he pulled in. A gas station employee waved down the trooper and said a man and woman had flashed a gun and then drove away.

The trooper sent out the information, and a short time later, another trooper spotted the suspect vehicle heading south on I-69 near the State Road 8 Auburn exit. The second trooper tracked the vehicle to another gas station. More State Police troopers and officers with the Auburn Police Department arrived and were able to detain the couple.

The suspects were identified as 33 year old Dustin Austin of Indianapolis and 33 year old Amanda Jessup of Homer. During the course of the investigation, Austin was found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Johnson County, Indiana. A handgun and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle.

Both were taken to the DeKalb County Jail. Austin is being held on the outstanding warrant for failure to appear, and Jessup for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The events at the Ashley Deli are still being investigated. Once it is finished, that report will be turned over to the DeKalb County Prosecutor for review and determination if charges will be filed.
