PLEASANT LAKE, IN - The Steuben County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle crash with injuries on County Road 500 South at the intersection of County Road 225 West in Steuben County's rural Steuben Township on Saturday afternoon just after 1:15 p.m. The initial crash investigation determined that 56 year old Alan B. Jones of Angola was traveling east on 500 South on a black 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle when the vehicle began to swerve back and forth before leaving the north side of the roadway and colliding with an embankment.

A witness to the crash who was following Jones reported they noticed Jones' head move backwards and the motorcycle started to swerve before going off of the roadway. The witness indicated it appeared Jones may have been experiencing some sort of medical event just prior to the crash.

The witness along with other passersby told Steuben County Communications that Jones was not breathing after he crashed his motorcycle and they started CPR. Jones started breathing again prior to medical personnel arriving on scene.

Authorities say Jones was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was transported to Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne by Samaritan helicopter for internal injuries to his head and chest.

At this time, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.

Assisting the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Steuben County EMS, Parkview Samaritan helicopter, and Pleasant Lake Fire Department.
