INDIANAPOLIS - The Director of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security has turned in his resignation to Governor Eric J. Holcomb.

Stephen Cox previously served as the state Fire Marshal and as Chief of the South Bend Fire Department before that.

Governor Holcomb called Cox’s leadership calm, thoughtful and deliberate during the pandemic.

Cox’s last day as executive director is June 24.

The governor has named current Fire Marshal Joel Thacker to the post.
