BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, MI – Authorities say windy conditions may have been a factor in a fatal crash Friday afternoon in Branch County’s Batavia Township.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says their officers were called around 4 PM to U.S. 12 west of Wheeler Road. A pickup driven by a Coldwater man was heading west on U.S. 12, while a motorcycle was traveling east. Witnesses say a gust of wind may have caused the motorcycle to cross over the center line, colliding with the rear driver’s side of the truck.

The 45 year old driver of the motorcycle was thrown off his bike. He was wearing a helmet, but Pollack says he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pick up driver was treated at the scene by Life Care Ambulance for minor injuries.

Police have not released any names, pending notification of family members. The matter is still being investigated.

Assisting deputies were the Bronson Fire Department, the Michigan State Police and the Branch County Road Commission.
