(ANGOLA) – Sentence has been given to a man accused of murder in 2023.

Steuben County Prosecutor Travis Musser says 30 year old Yoshua Monday was sentenced Wednesday in Steuben County Superior Court to 55 years in prison on the charge of murder and to another 10 years on the enhancement of using a firearm.

Monday was found guilty in a November trial for the shooting death of 56 year old Bryan Hall of Angola.

Monday was living in the same apartment building as Hall in the 600 block of East Gilmore Street. Monday was staying with a couple he had befriended two years prior, and had been living with them for about a month before the incident occurred.

The shooting took place on October 12, 2023 at 10:45 AM as Monday and one of his roommates, Amber Barile-Perry, were preparing to leave to run an errand. According to court records, Barile-Perry told police she had left their apartment and went to her car. Previously, she told police, she saw Monday with a handgun and told him not to take it outside.

As she waited for Monday to get in the vehicle, Barile-Perry told police she heard three gunshots in rapid succession followed by a fourth. Court records show that Barile-Perry asked Monday what happened and Monday told her that he did what they told him to do.

Musser says his office would like to thank all of the law enforcement officers involved for their hard work through this case.
