A Corunna teen has become the area's latest Lilly Scholarship winner.

DeKalb High School senior Juan Carlos Vasquez has plans to become a doctor. Vasquez, of Corunna, will get some help reaching that goal by winning the 2019 DeKalb County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The annual scholarship is awarded by the Community Foundation of DeKalb County.

With the scholarship, Vasquez hopes to attend either the University of Notre Dame or Indiana University-Bloomington.

Once he becomes a doctor, he hopes to return to DeKalb County to help others and give back to his community.
