Two Teens Injured in Early Friday Morning Crash
Friday, January 18, 2019

Authorities say that speeds too fast for the roadway conditions contributed to the crash that injured two teens early Friday morning.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department was called to the 5700 Block of State Road 8 near Butler at 12:23 AM. Reports indicate that a Dodge Ram Truck driven by Colben D. Steury, age 16 of Butler, was eastbound on 8 when he thought he struck something. Investigators say he lost control of the truck on the ice covered roadway. The truck entered a ditch on the north side of the road where it became airborne over three separate driveways.

After hitting the third driveway, the truck began to overturn and roll. The truck struck a tree and came to rest upright facing west.

Steury, and passenger who was identified as 15-year-old Nicolas E. Blair of Butler, were wearing seat-belts at the time of the crash.

Steury was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center for treatment of a broken leg he suffered from the crash.

Blair had lacerations to head.

Assisting the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department was the Butler Police Department, DeKalb County EMS, and Butler Fire Department.
