McCormick Offers Statement on House Bill 1005
Wednesday, March 20, 2019

With the passing of Indiana House Bill 1005, the end date on the office for the State Superintendent has been determined. Effective January 10, 2025 the office of State Superintendent for Public Instruction will be no more as it will be the Governor's job from that day forward to appoint a Secretary of Education, as well as highlighting the qualifications desired for the position including residency, education, and previous experience.

State Superintendent, Jennifer McCormick states, “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve. Indiana is home to over 1.2 million students and more than 75,000 educators. Each deserves our complete attention and support. While politics has been interjected into our education, at the end of the day the question should not be, ‘what side of the aisle are you on,’ but ‘are you on the side of kids?”

McCormick also addressed that the 2020 race for Governor will be extremely vital in the future of Indiana students and educators.
