Man Admits to Neglect, Sentenced to Six Years

An Angola Man was sentenced to five years for possession of methamphetamine and an additional year for neglect of a dependent Monday afternoon in Steuben Circuit Court. Ryan Scott Kauffman, 31, was ordered to report to Steuben County Jail on June 21st. Three years of his sentence was suspended and he will serve it on probation after he has completed incarceration.


Kauffman pleaded guilty to a Level 5 felony count of possession of methamphetamine, the charge was enhanced because his possession occurred in the presence of a child. In addition, he admitted to a level 6 felony for neglecting the child who was three years old when Kauffman was arrested July 4th, 2018 at a Steuben County Hotel.


Kauffman admitted to the two charges in exchange for the dismissal of two other counts pending in the case, another misdemeanor case and a felony case from March 2017 alleging battery of a pregnant woman.
