Fire crews were able to quickly knock out a fire Wednesday at a vacant school building.
According to officials with the Coldwater Fire Department, the old Franklin school building had a small fire that was reported just after 8 p.m. Reports indicate that emergency responders were dispatched to the closed school, located on South Fremont Street, on a report of a fire that was in a stairwell.
Firefighters had to remove boards from windows and doors in order to ventilated smoke out of the building. Quick response from fire crews were able to put out flames and contain the blaze.
After a routine search, crews concluded that no one was inside the school during the incident.
No injuries were reported. Portions of nearby roadways were blocked for response teams.
The structure is still owned by the Coldwater School District.
The fire remains under investigation.
Crews were on the scene for roughly two hours. The Coldwater Fire Department was assisted by the Coldwater Police Department and Life Care Ambulance.
