Sears Store In Coldwater To Shut Its Doors
Tuesday, June 18, 2019

A Coldwater based store will be closing their doors this summer. According to their website, the Sears Hometown Store at 352 Willowbrook Road is liquidating their complete stock. An employee confirmed that the locally owned store is going to be closing July 19.

On the store's website, there is a posting that the store is in liquidation; all items are on sale; everything must go. Sears filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2018. Company officials at the time said sales had been in decline for a long time. As part of the bankruptcy process, 142 stores were closed by the end of 2018.

The closing of the Coldwater store is not in connection with the other closings. Sears was started in 1886 by Richard Sears as the Sears Watch Company to sell watches by mail. It evolved into Sears, Roebuck, and Company, and expanded its offerings through a catalog.
