(ANGOLA) - The Brokaw Theatre in downtown Angola will close on July 31st for extensive renovations which will include the installation of a digital projection and sound equipment. The Brokaw, which first opened in August of 1931 with the showing of "The Smiling Lieutenant" starring Maurice Chevalier, was recently bought by Scott Glaze and his wife.
Glaze is hoping to return the Brokaw to the center of the social life in Angola. It's not known when the Brokaw will be reopened as the Glazes plan to focus on doing the project right, not doing it quickly. During the remodeling, progress updates will be posted on the Brokaw's Facebook page.
The Brokaw was designed by Indiana architect Alvin M. Strauss. Among his commissioned works are the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, the Lincoln Bank Tower and the Embassy Theatre and Indiana Hotel in Fort Wayne.
