(CENTREVILLE) – A new scam has been reported in St. Joseph County.
Detective-Sergeant Lonnie Palmer of the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department says his office received a call regarding a phone scam.
The individual told officers they received a call telling them their debit card had been temporarily locked. The person was instructed to press a combination of numbers on the phone that would transfer them to a call center.
The individual hung up with this call and then contacted their bank which confirmed it was a scam.
Palmer says if you receive a call like this, DO NOT press any numbers, and simply hang up the phone. Palmer says to always be aware of these kinds of calls and to contact your bank if you have any questions.
