City Commission Approves Two IFEC Requests

(STURGIS) – Two Sturgis businesses have received tax breaks on some new equipment.

Cathy Knapp of Southwest Michigan First presented the two Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificate requests to the Sturgis City Commission during their Wednesday meeting. The first was for Burr Oak Tool as Knapp explains. ...... {LISTEN}.

The expansion and equipment will help Burr Oak Tool with their ability to meet their sales needs and reach into new markets. It also allows them to retain 311 jobs and create 51 new jobs, which Knapp says 20 of which have already been created.

The second IFEC request that Knapp brought to the Commission was for Midwest Plastic Engineering. ...... {LISTEN}.

In addition to meeting sales demands, these additions would let Midwest Plastic to keep 45 employees and create 5 new positions.

Both requests were approved by unanimous votes.

A third IFEC request for Morgan Olson that was on the agenda will be put off until the Commission’s next meeting on August 27.
