Stutzman sees transition in job market

STURGIS - From too few jobs to too few workers. That’s the transition taking place across Northeast Indiana according to Third District Congressman Marlin Stutzman.

The Howe Republican says the turnout at this year’s I-P-F-W Job Fair illustrates the change.

"Two years ago we had about 800 job openings, last year a thousand, and this year we had over 3,000 openings with a waiting list of people who wanted to get in. Here in our region things are going maybe much better than in the other parts of the country."

Stutzman hopes that improvements in wages will follow the trend.

"I'm also hoping wages start to follow that. We've seen that over close to a decade things have stayed relatively flat since the recession started. I think there's a lot of good reasons to be hopeful."

The Congressman noted it will be difficult get major legislation like immigration reform passed with an election right around the corner.
