No Injuries In Mobile Home Fire
Monday Jun 12, 2017 12:43pm
Batavia Township • Bronson, MI

By: Mike Stiles

No injuries were reported in a mobile home fire in Branch County's Batavia Township.

The Bronson Fire Department was called to 292 Nash Drive at 2:20 Sunday morning for a mobile home fire. While in route, Branch County Central Dispatch received a call from a neighbor at 294 Nash Drive who was not able to exit her home because of the intense smoke and heat.

Fire fighters arrived and found the mobile home at 292 Nash Drive fully engulfed in flames. As they battled that fire, they noticed the shudders and skirting at 294 Nash Drive melting and several windows had shattered due to the heat from the fire.

The Coldwater Fire Department, who was called for mutual aid, kept the second trailer from breaking out in flames.

The elderly male homeowner at 292 Nash Drive told fire fighters that a smoke detector woke him up and he was able to get out without serious injury.

The neighbor at 294 was helped out of her trailer by another neighbor who forced open a boarded shut back door.

The mobile home at 292 Nash Drive was a total loss, with damage estimates at $20,000 for the structure and its contents. Damage estimates on the mobile home at 294 Nash Drive are estimated at $5,000. There was no insurance on either trailer.

Both homeowners were assisted by the Branch County Sheriff's Department Victim Services Unit. Also assisting at the scene were Michigan State Police, Life Care Ambulance, Consumers Energy and Michigan Gas Utilities.
