Coldwater Blackout Plagues Branch County
Sunday Oct 08, 2017 12:42pm
Coldwater, MI

By: Sheila McCrea

Power was finally restored for resident in the city of Coldwater after a 24 hour blackout. The outage affected the entire city and ended when power came back on across the city around 8:20 p.m. Sunday.

Apparently poles from a high voltage transmission line that provides the primary power for the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities were brought down during a storm and heavy winds Saturday night. Darkness plagued residents in the city and surrounding area until the poles could be replaced and the lines reenergized by International Transmission Company, who owns and operators of the transmission line.

Response teams with Coldwater Board of Public Utilities worked to maintain water and wastewater services in the city until power was restored.

In addition to CBPU subscribers, several thousand Consumers Energy customers in the southern part of Branch County were still out when the power came back on in Coldwater. Consumers Energy hoped to have those areas restored by 10 p.m. Sunday night.

Despite the weekend Coldwater City School will be open Monday morning and operate as normal.
