Three Police Officers were hurt early Thursday morning in their attempts to save a 3-year-old boy from a burning home.

An Indiana State Trooper from the Fort Wayne and Toll Road Posts responded to 4275 W 100 N after it was reported that a three year old boy, was inside of the residence which was on fire at the time. The call came in at around 12:30 a.m.

Both ISP Troopers arrived and found at least two adult males outside of the home. One of the adult males was the father of the boy, and he was yelling that his son was inside of his bedroom.

The two State Troopers along with a Steuben County Sheriffs Deputy and Angola Officer attempted to make entry into the home.

Reports indicate that the heat and smoke from the fire made it impossible for the officers to locate the boy.

The Angola Fire Department arrived and were able to find the youngster with their fire fighting equipment and gear. The boy was found alive, but unconscious by the Angola Fire Department in another part of the home. He was transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne.

One of the Indiana State Troopers was treated at Cameron Hospital for smoke inhalation and was later released. The Angola Police Officer was also treated and released from Cameron for smoke inhalation and laceration to his hand. The Steuben County Sheriff's Deputy was initially taken to Cameron, but was then transferred to a Fort Wayne hospital for smoke inhalation.

Once the boy was rescued, the blaze at the single story home was quickly brought under control.

The fire is under investigation by the Indiana State Police, the Angola Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
