(COLDWATER) – A business has released some good news regarding their facility in Southern Michigan.
Elmet Technologies, the last and only fully integrated, U.S.-owned and operated tungsten and molybdenum manufacturer, announced on Tuesday it has secured a strategic $5.1 million order to develop domestic extrusion capabilities for Inconel® and Monel®, two high-performance superalloys engineered for mission-critical Navy submarine systems.
This strategic initiative will leverage Elmet Technologies’ state-of-the-art 5,500 ton extrusion press at its Coldwater facility. The order safeguards a critical asset in support of U.S. Navy shipbuilding and strengthens the resiliency of the U.S. defense industrial base.
The order is part of a broader collaboration between Elmet Technologies, the United States Navy, the Maritime Industrial Base Program, and BlueForge Alliance. Together, these organizations are working to ensure a robust, secure, and innovative supply chain for critical defense applications.
The funding will be used to develop and qualify extrusion and rotary forging processes for these high performance alloys, which are essential for corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength in naval propulsion and submarine system applications.
