ANGOLA, Ind. — Steuben County is exploring new uses for income taxes and other financial measures in response to Senate Enrolled Act 1, according to Steuben County Council President Dan Caruso. He says the county is working to maintain competitive wages and attract new talent to county government positions while continuing to fund the Steuben County Judicial Center, and to move forward with plans for a new public defender's office.
Other financial factors affecting the county's 2026 budget include the depletion of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Previously, the county received about $7 million from ARPA, which was a federal program created to help with losses from the COVID-19 pandemic.
