Thursday Jan 19, 2017 12:00am
Defiance, OH

Senior basketball players Devin Mangas and Kelsey Tietje have been named Defiance College Athletes of the Week for their performances on the court a week ago.

Senior guard Devin Mangas (Leipsic) averaged 16 points and three rebounds as DC split a pair of games last week. In DC's victory over Earlham (Ind.) College, Mangas scored 14 oints on four-of-six (66.7 percent) shooting from the floor, as DC finished off a 78-64 victory. Then in Saturday's road loss to Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Insitute of Technology, Mangas led DC with 18 points while also grabbing four rebounds.

Senior center Kelsey Tietje (Deshler/Patrick Henry) averaged 14.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in Defiance's two contests last week. Tietje was one of five scorers in double figures for the Yellow Jackets, scoring 12 points on four-of-six (66.7 percent) shooting from the floor, while adding seven rebounds and four blocks, as Defiance knocked off Earlham, 62-59. Tietje also led DC on Saturday with 17 points and 18 boards, but DC fell to Rose-Hulman, 55-42. Tietje also enters Wednesday's contest against Bluffton just three rebounds shy of becoming the Defiance College all-time rebound leader.

The Yellow Jackets have a pair of doubleheaders this week, as they travel to Bluffton University on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The women will begin at 6 p.m., with the men's game to follow. On Saturday, Jan. 21, Defiance will welcome Mount St. Joseph University to the Karl H. Weaner Center. The women's game will tip at 1 p.m. with the men to follow.
