Trine Men's Outdoor Track & Field Wins Manchester Invitational

NORTH MANCHESTER, IN - The Trine University men's outdoor track & field team continue its impressive season with another team victory, this time at the Manchester University Invitational in North Manchester, Ind.

The Thunder finished with an overall team score of 255 points to take top honors. Trine's nearest opponent was Grace College who totaled 179 points and host school Manchester rounded out the top three with 111 points.

Trine had an impressive showing in the 100-meter dash with the Thunder sweeping the first five positions led by sophomore William Thonn who posted the quickest overall time of 11.05 seconds. Sophomore Ben Williams and senior Jacob Root rounded out the top three with times of 11.25 seconds and 11.30 seconds respectively.

The Thunder went on to win three of the distance event races that included senior Neil O'Brien in the 1500-meter run (3:56.83), senior Jack Beakas in the 5000-meter run (14:50.61) and junior Seth Knepper in the 10,000-meter run (33:06.65) among a field comprised of four Trine runners.

Senior Levi Neuzerling also competed in the 1500m run and placed second behind O'Brien in a time of 4:00.21.

Junior Greysen Spohn was the other individual event winner on the track for the Thunder in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 59.41 seconds. Senior Ike Sheehan also placed in the top three with a time of 1:01.65 to take third place.

Spohn was also Trine's top finisher in the 110-meter hurdles and had a time of 15.59 seconds.

Additionally, the Thunder captured the 4x100-meter relay after posting a combined time of 41.81 seconds.

Other top finishes in the running events included a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash by sophomore Kyran Pearson who had a mark of 51.00 seconds and Williams who ran in the 200-meter dash and recorded a time of 22.23 seconds to take third place overall.

Off the track, Williams was one of two Trine competitors to win their respective event in the long jump with a best leap of 21' 5.50".

Junior Noah McClellan was the other event winner in the triple jump with a distance of 40' 8.75". Teammate Chauncey Ford placed second following a mark of 38' 0.00".

Spohn had the best finish for Trine in the high jump of 6' 1.25" which was good enough for a runner-up standing and freshman Alexander Lewis placed third in the shot put with a throw of 42' 11.00."

Sophomore Travis Dowling completed the list of top finishes on the day with a third-place effort in the discus with a best attempt of 131' 4.00".

Next on the schedule for the team is the DePauw Invitational next Saturday, Apr. 17 in Greencastle, Ind.
