Montclair State 3, TRINE 1
Brooke Powers homered and drove in all three runs as the Red Hawks defeated the Thunder in the opening round. Powers led off the sixth-inning with a home run and added the game-winning two-run single in the seventh to lead the Red Hawks to the win. Kendra Marshall homered to lead the Thunder offensively. All-American pitcher Alex Hill picked up the victory for Montclair State, throwing 100 pitches and holding Thunder to just five hits. Trine will fall to the elimination round, where they will face East Texas Baptist Friday at 2:30pm in an elimination game.
Trine's Carly Searles has been named to the 2014 NFCA All-America team, which was announced at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship banquet Wednesday evening. Searles becomes the first player in Trine softball history to earn All-American recognition multiple times, earning the honors for the second-consecutive season. The junior has received First-Team honors in both of her All-America selections. This is the third time in school-history Trine softball has had an All-American honoree.
