Two Area Schools Receive High Honors from the IHSAA Tonight
Tuesday Dec 20, 2016 12:00am
LaGrange, IN

Tonight's basketball games between Lakeland High School and Westview hold more than a cross-county rivalry.

Both schools will receive “Unified Champion School” banners recognizing their efforts in the Champions Together program for the first time in either school’s history. Champions Together is a partnership between the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and Special Olympics Indiana.

A recognition ceremony will occur between the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball games hosted by Lakeland. The banners will be presented by representatives of the IHSAA, Special Olympics Indiana, and the newly organized Special Olympics LaGrange County management team.

Only 31 of the 410 IHSAA member schools will be receiving this honor for the first time this year.

The joint effort of the two schools to support Champions Together was initiated by Westview senior Karyssa Davis and Lakeland senior Isaiah Lehman. Lehman is a member of the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee.
