Panther Wrestling Team Wins Back-2-Back Championships

Christmas came early for the Prairie Heights Wrestling team last Friday as the Panthers claimed a repeat of last year's performance clinching a back-2-back team state title. Prairie Heights is the 1A state champion for the second year in a row as the Panthers defeated Shenandoah 39-27 in the finals at the IHSWCA team state tournament Friday at War Memorial Coliseum.

Prairie Heights went into the tournament as the #2 ranked team, but still earned the #1 seed. In the opening round, the Panthers beat Fountain Central 58-13. In Round 3, Prairie Heights gave undefeated 1A #8 Knightstown (20-0) their first loss of the season 60-18. In the semi-finals. PH topped 1A #9 Monrovia 42-22.

The championship match, the Panthers claimed the title with a 39-27 win over 1A #3 Shenandoah. The Panthers are now 25-1, with their only loss coming to 2A State Champions Yorktown.

Central Noble came in eighth in 1A. Garrett finished seventh in 2A.
