Tuesday morning Steuben County Sheriff's deputies responded to a personal injury vehicle accident on SR 127 near CR 400 N in rural Pleasant Township which involved 70 year old Daniel J. Worthman of Fremont.

A silver 2006 Chevy Impala driven by Worthman had been traveling northbound on SR 127 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle drifted off the east side of the roadway. Steuben County officials believe that Worthman had over-corrected back to the west causing his vehicle to slide out of control and travel off the west side of SR 127 down a steep embankment.

Worthman suffered lacerations to his face and was transported by ambulance to a Fort Wayne area hospital in serious condition. Seat Belts were in use at the time of the accident and airbags didn't deploy. According to the Steuben County Sheriff's report it is possible a medical event happened prior to the crash due to the erratic driving.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office. Assisting the Sheriff's Office were Angola Police, Angola Fire Rescue, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division and Steuben County EMS.
