KENDALLVILLE, IN - A Noble County man was rushed to the hospital after a shootout with police in Kendalville early Thursday morning.

The Indiana State police say 40-year-old Justin Robert Weikel of LaOtto led them on a chase through Allen, DeKalb, and Noble counties after speeding away from a Fort Wayne police officer late Wednesday night who pulled him over for reckless driving.

Authorities say Weikel led officers from five departments to the Johnson mobile home park on the south side of Kendallville and refused to get out of his car. Reports indicate he started shooting at them from inside his car.

Investigators say several officers shot back, but when Weikel allegedly continued firing, they backed off to protect themselves and nearby residents. SWAT teams from Fort Wayne and the state police.

Weikel had an outstanding felony arrest warrant out of Noble County for meth. He's also charged with other felonies including drug counts and unlawful possession of a weapon as a serious violent offender.

Once law enforcement complete their investigation, the Noble County prosecutor will decide on charges related to this latest incident.
