COLDWATER, MI – Two drivers escaped serious injuries after their vehicles collided.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened at about 3 p.m. on U.S. 12 west of Fox Road Sunday afternoon.

Investigators say Garrett Heath, age 60 of Hillsdale, was heading west on U.S. 12 when he fell asleep, crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Joshua Smotherman, age 31 of Allen.

Heath received minor injuries and was transported to Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital by Lifecare Ambulance.

Both driver’s were cited for driver’s license violation, Heath also cited for careless driving.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Office, were assisted by Lifecare Ambulance.
