Lake James Homicide Investigation

LAKE JAMES, IN – A death investigation has turned into a homicide investigation in Steuben County at a Lake James home.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department was sent to a residence on Lake James to conduct a death investigation after reports of an unresponsive female found inside the home. The initial call came at around 12:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the woman was dead. The department said that deputies “noticed unusual and suspicious circumstances at the home”. At that time, Indiana State Police were then called to assist.
An autopsy was performed on the woman, identified as 82-year-old Wilma Ball of Angola, at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne. Her death has been ruled a homicide by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.
At this time, the investigation is still in the preliminary stages and ongoing.
Assisting authorities on scene was the Steuben County EMS, & the Steuben County Coroner’s Office. In addition, the Steuben County Prosecutor’s Office is also a part of the investigating task force.
