Sturges-Young Suspending In House Dining Services
By: Mike Stiles - Thursday, June 24, 2021

STURGIS – A change is coming to the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.

Wednesday night, Sturges-Young Executive Director Sheila Bolda presented to the Sturgis City Commission a proposal to cancel their food service contract with Creative Dining Services starting July Bolda says this move is based in part on the Sturges-Young's inability to find employees, leaving them with just one server, then herself and another.

Bolda says the chef from Creative Dining Services that has been at the Sturges- Young since March is going back to their previous facility, and a replacement has not been found. She says those factors made this decision an easier one to make. Bolda says this move will open up for outside catering and food to be brought in to the facility, and create opportunities for collaboration with local food services and caterers who have struggled during the pandemic.

For events booked prior to this announcement and local service clubs that meet at the Sturges-Young, Bolda says they have been working to find solutions for food service moving forward. Bolda says they will continue to provide concessions and bar services during events that they host.

The Commission approved the canceling of the Creative Dining contract, which has been in place since June 2019.
