NEWBURG TOWNSHIP – A police pursuit that started in Northeast Indiana ended with the suspect vehicle crashing in Southwest Michigan.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says his office received a call at 1:25 PM Thursday to assist the Middlebury Police Department with a pursuit that was coming into Cass County. Deputies located the suspect vehicle on M-40 near Hoffman Road in Newburg Township.

Deputies put down stop sticks. The suspect vehicle, driven by 30 year old Chase Rohm of Three Rivers, avoided them, but lost control of his vehicle. He crashed into an electrical pole, rolled over and stopped in a ditch. Rohm was taken to Three Rivers Health for treatment of the injuries he suffered in the crash. It's unknown if he was wearing a safety belt or if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Newburg Fire Department, Newburg Ambulance, the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department, the Pokagon Tribal Police, Michigan State Police and Three Rivers Ambulance.
