FREMONT, IN - An incident involving a stolen vehicle has led to an accident where one person was injured.

Deputies with the Steuben County Sheriff's Department responded to the 6800 block of North Old US 27 in rural Jamestown Township for a reported vehicle theft that had occurred just before 7:30 p.m.

Reports indicate a gray 2010 Chevy Equinox had been stolen. While officers were responding to the reported vehicle theft, one of the deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on State Road 120 near County 100 East.

Once the deputy caught up with the vehicle near VanGuilder Road, it was observed to be a gray 2010 Chevy Equinox and confirmed to be the vehicle that was just reported stolen. A traffic stop was then initiated on State 120 near County Road 50 West and a vehicle pursuit ensued westbound on 120.

Stopsticks were able to be deployed near Snow Lake Lane 800 by the Indiana State Police.

The fleeing vehicle struck the stopsticks deflating all four tires. The vehicle continued westbound on SR 120 at a high rate of speed before traveling off of the north side of the roadway just east of County Road 700 North, colliding with a small embankment causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times.

The female driver, who was identified as 27 year old Autumn Kristeen Deck of Osseo, Michigan, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Steuben County EMS was immediately called to the scene to render medical treatment. Deck was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN by Steuben County EMS in serious condition.

The weather was cloudy and the roadway was slightly wet.

The crash is being investigated by the Indiana State Police. Drug use is believed to be a factor at this time.

The original incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and additional criminal charges are being sought.
