WATERLOO, IN - A 17-year-old Ashley boy died in a rollover accident during the early morning hours Tuesday.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department was called to a reported crash just before 12:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of County Road 35 in Waterloo. First units on the scene found a heavily damaged Dodge Charger and the boy laying nearby.
Investigators believe the car was headed northbound when it veered off the east side of the road and then continued over a raised gravel drive. That's when the car rolled sideways multiple times before hitting a tree. The driver was thrown from the car and suffered fatal injuries.
Police identified the driver as 17-year-old Alexander Barnhart, of Ashley.
Authorities believe speed is likely a factor in the crash, and the driver wasn't wearing his seatbelt.
