Glen Oaks' Nora Hagen Theater Could Become Instructional Space
By: Mike Stiles - Wednesday, April 27, 2022

(CENTREVILLE) – An area known for hosting performances could become an educational space in the future.

During a recent meeting of the Glen Oaks Community College Board of Trustees, President Dr. David Devier presented an update on the plans to renovate the south side of the campus. A part of the renovations has the Nora Hagen Theater tentatively planned to become an instructional space for large classes. If this happens, it would be named the Nora Hagen Instructional Auditorium.

For many years, the college officials have spoken about the theater's need to be renovated. There are many issues with the theater area: seating size, ADA compliance, poor lighting both for general use and for performances; no built in projection system and no built in sound system.

Devier told the Board of Trustees that since the COVID-19 pandemic, the theater has seen use as instructional space. He says it would be a big help the nursing classes, which have seen growth over the past few years.

If the theater is to be renovated to be used for instructional space, then it may not be able to be used for performance space.

No plans have been finalized, and Devier says there is a lot of thought and planning going into how the theater will be renovated.
