(NOTTAWA TOWNSHIP) – A Sturgis man was seriously injured in a two vehicle crash over the weekend.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says at 5:40 PM Sunday, his department was called to the intersection of M-86 and Nottawa Road in Nottawa Township for a two vehicle injury accident.

Deputies determined that a 23 year old Burr Oak resident was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, and stopped at the intersection. The pick up attempted to cross M-86, and struck a westbound 1998 Honda three wheeled motorcycle, driven by 72 year old Elden Begley of Sturgis.

Begley was thrown from his motorcycle, but was alert and conscious when first responders arrived. He was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo with serious injuries.

The driver and the passenger of the Silverado were not injured. Begley was wearing his helmet and the individuals in the truck were wearing their seatbelts.

The Centreville Fire-Rescue and Life Care Ambulance assisted deputies at the scene.
