Hundreds Of Prisoners At Branch County’s Lakeland Facility Transferred After Mold Is Discovered
By: Sheila McCrea - Thursday, May 5, 2022

COLDWATER, MI – Over 600 prisoners at Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater have been transferred to other prisons after maintenance staff found mold.

The mold was discovered in the attic space of two housing units. Reportedly, there is no indication that it is black mold, but testing found that the mold levels in the attic space are considered “problematic” and warranted being addressed further.

It may take a few months to correct the problem. The Michigan Department of Corrections says once repairs are made, the prisoners will return to the Coldwater facility.
