ANGOLA, IN - Tuesday was a big day for Steuben County.

The official groundbreaking for new Steuben County Judicial Center has commenced.

The new judicial center is being built to replace the Steuben County Courthouse, which doesn't meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. In addition, security and lack of space are also concerns at the existing courthouse.

Officials from Steuben County government, the city of Angola, Weigand Construction and many other community partners involved in the project were at the construction site Tuesday for the ceremonial shoveling of dirt to kick off the construction of the new judicial center.

The new building will be about 56,410 square feet.

The new judicial facility is set to open in 2024.
